Yoga instructors can earn $50 or more an hour in private practice. Income will vary depending on what part of the country you live in, skill levels, and if your an employee or in private practice.

If teaching in a classroom setting, such as a community center or health club, you may want to charge on a per student basis, usually around $5 or $10.

As an additional source of income, use your training for recommending books, DVD's, floor mats, clothing, virtually anything that relates to alternative therapies.

There is a growing demand for instructors in health clubs, sports centers, and community centers. You could also teach specific groups, such as cancer patients, pregnant women, and children. Consider taking additional training for these groups, as there may health related issues involved.

There are many different styles of this therapy.

As an instructor you may teach the various positions, controlled breathing, and meditation as ways to strengthen and tone the body. You could also include the spiritual aspects or dealing with specific health issues as part of your training.

Certification requirements can be obtained through a weekend course if you already have knowledge and experience with this therapy. If you obtain your certification through an accredited school, be prepared to pay between $2000 and $5000 for a one year program.

Regulations may apply depending on the style you are teaching. For example; if you use massage in your practice, it would fall under massage therapy regulations.
