For centuries, aromatherapy oils have been used in various cultures as a healing tool. These essential healing oils have been used as an aid in physical and psychological well-being.
These scented oils circulate into the air and can be blended into perfumes, soaps and various other ingredients to be used topically and sometimes internally.
The essential oils in aromatherapy products come from natural sources such as plants, trees and flowers and have amazing properties that work to help defend against diseases such as bronchitis and arthritis. Some of these fragrant oils stimulate us while others have a relaxing affect on us.
How do you know which essential oil is used for which purpose?
Lavender: Many baby items have lavender in them. This is because lavender is one of the scented oils whose subtle smell causes us to relax.
Jasmine: Another essential oil that is well known and very popular for its relaxing and romantic properties is jasmine.
Lemon Oil: Lemon essential oils have very energizing properties. It helps to stimulate the blood and circulatory system, and when combined with cypress is very good for the reduction of varicose veins.
Asafetida: A smelly plant known as Asafetida produces essential oils used to aid in the relief of nervous disorders and muscle spasms. It is also an aid in the relief of colic and pneumonia. The oils from this plant help to remove parasites from the intestines, helping to relieve both fatigue and digestive problems.
Cajeput: Malaleuca cajeputi or Cajeput is aromatherapy oil that is taken from the leaves and twigs of plants originating from Indonesia. Diseases of the skin, urinary dysfunctions and both intestinal and pulmonary problems may be improved with Cajeput.
Celery Seed Oil: Celery Seed Essential Oils come from India and are used as an antioxidant. Aid in the treatment of rheumatic symptoms and use as an antiseptic are other uses for celery seed essential oils.
Clary Sage: Oils extracted from Bulgaria based plants known as Clary Sage are a light golden yellow in color and are frequently used in aromatherapy as antidepressants and sedatives.
These aromatic oils are also known to help with asthma by relieving both the symptoms and the spasms. Clary Sage oil is blended with a variety of oils such as German Bergamot, Jasmine, and Lavender.
Chilly Seed Oils: Chilly Seed Oils are a reddish orange colored oil used in aromatherapy for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Chilly Seed Oils are also used as an aid to the digestive system.
Chaulmoogra: Chaulmoogra is another essential oil found in aromatherapy oils. It is used to help with the treatment of rheumatism, bruising, sores and even skin diseases.
Other essential oils such as cypress, juniper and rosemary are all wonderful in helping reduce fluid retention.
